New Research Article: “White Girl Wasted”

I published a new article entitled “White Girl Wasted: Gender Performativity of Sexuality with Alcohol in National Panhellenic Conference Sorority Women” with my colleagues Drs. Amber Manning-Ouellette (Oklahoma State), Kim E Bullington (Old Dominion), Shelley Price-Williams (Northern Iowa). This article builds on my previous work focused on fraternity men (White Boy Wasted) and the construction of sorority hegemony through alcohol use (Brunch So Hard). This narrative inquiry (qualitative) study explored how sorority members negotiated their identities within systems of sorority hegemony. Women in National Panhellenic Sororities (NPC) employed gendered empowerment discourses to explain how they consumed alcohol and engaged consensual amorous relationships with fraternity men. Implications for practice included harm reduction, sex education, and supportive policies about sisterhood.

The article is available open-sourced in the Georgia Journal of Student Affairs.
